The Advantages of Resource

The past month or so I have had the opportunity to work with an individual and help them with their math. This individual is very bright but struggles when it comes to learning math. As I was working with them I found that they are in fifth grade but are on a second grade level of math. I also found out that this individual attends resource. Since working with them I have been curious if attending resource truly benefits the student. Since then after reading and doing some research and talking to teachers I have found that there are some major advantages for attending resource. One of them is that the student gets taught things at their level and that the teaching is more tailored to their needs. The class or group is smaller than a regular classroom and they receive individualized help. The most important advantage for me that I found was that they feel success when they are in resource. As I was helping this individual with math I could tell that they were embarrassed that they needed index cards to help them with their times tables during class. I also could tell by how they did math that they didn't feel to much of success in the classroom. There was one or two times where they did feel successful with math when I was there and according to the teacher that individual was happy and proud of themselves the rest of the day. I honestly believe that students everywhere need a moment of success because if they don't then they will be more than willing to give up on school and on learning and doing that subject. They also will be fearful and they won't have a lot of confidence in themselves.
